THERE'S arguably never been a better time to be a Green Party candidate.
The national agenda has swung in their favour with global warming firmly planted at the top of it.
Nationally they've got several councillors, one peer, two MEPs and two London Assembly members. But locally, there's no representation on the council.
Statistically speaking, they've got a mountain to climb in West Lancs. Last time they got a respectable 4.5% of the vote, but compared to the Conservatives (59.6%) and Labour (34.4%) they'll have their work cut out.
Ex-Labour Party member Maurice George, from Ormskirk, is the main Green cheerleader in the district, and has hit on some interesting ideas - one of them being to hold meetings in the pub which are open to everyone.
But will the national craze for green issues translate into hard votes and, ultimately, seats on the council?
Even with a fair wind (from a turbine, obviously) they'll struggle to break their duck.
Having said that, West Lancs is due for a big upset soon. What do you think?

If the Greens got in maybe we could hold all our council meetings in the pub. Then we could knock down our beautiful art deco council chamber to provide land for developers. Actually I think that's already happening.
